By the time I was 15, my parents had moved so often that I had already attended 6 completely different schools. Six.

Consequently, I was always the new kid at school. I was also quite depressed.

My parents couldn’t figure out why I was so sad, surely they were doing everything right…

So, they decided to send me to:

Basically, my Dad and I flew to Utah, and he signed away legal guardianship of me to a corporation that setup a program to help troubled teenagers. There were kids there that were in the CRIPs, there were Heroin addicts that I knew. There was a coke addicted 14 year old in my room. I’m not kidding.
Down the hall from me, there was a kid named Dave that didn’t really do any drugs. He wasn’t in any gangs, and he wasn’t outwardly all that troubled. But, he had a very, very off-putting manner about him. He looked at people like they were furniture. He had a laugh that creeped me out, because he only laughed at really fucked up stuff.
Dave had a tack board in his bedroom, where he would paste obituaries that he thought were funny. It was full. He liked to lie to people. Dave liked to see how long he could get away with things. He once told me that he set his neighbor’s dog on fire, and he was laughing about it.

I’m not kidding. I wish I was.

I once asked a counselor what was wrong with Dave, and the counselor told me that he was a very, very disturbed individual.

I don’t think Dave was “disturbed”. I don’t think he was sick or crazy. I think Dave was a piece of shit. People that the DSM IV classify as “Sociopaths” aren’t crazy. They simply see the world differently. To them, the rules do not apply. Everyone else is not even really all that important. It’s essentially an extreme case of Narcissism. They think that their perceived superiority allows them the right to do whatever they want to anybody. Dave thought he was smarter than everyone else, and he thought we were all his playthings.
As far as I know, he stayed at that place in Utah until he was legally an adult, and then they probably transferred him to an adult facility. I hope they did, anyways.
